Thanks much for the update, this is excellent news. And I guess this can be tied to the religious overtones of some earlier posts by mentioning that Scott Boras is the Devil incarnate.

Agent from hell.

It'll be interesting to see what in the end the Red Sox agreed to sign "Dice-K" for...they were asking $8 Million a year ON TOP OF the $51 Million they bid just to talk w/Boras and the Japanese ace. (I mean, hey, he has to put his kids through college, right? Just ask "our" "Ace" ;-) Sprry, couldn't resist...

Anyway, if it's a done deal the Sawx have a pretty strong starting rotation next year that includes Dice-K, Schilling, Josh Beckett, Jonathan Paplebon (although if they don't sign a closer he may have to go back to that role), a healthy Tim Wakefield (we hope) and maybe even young John Lester, who happily seems to be in remission from lymphonal cancer he was diagnosed with at the end of last year.

Go Red Sox!!!!

thank god Boras and Epstein have a good working relationship (bizarre as it may be). If they actually do get this thing on paper (please, oh please), it should end up around 9 - 9.5 i would think for 5 or 6 years. my best guess anyways. pretty good quid for a guy who's never pitched in the majors.

hope the man can handle some pressure if they do sign him. nice rotation like you pointed out huh? they do need a closer though - Papelbon's shoulder can't handle the closer role for a full season.

I think the fact that he's on the plane coming to Boston pretty much means it's a lock. Despite all the posturing, everything i've been reading says Dice-K would have been a national embarrassment in Japan if he had held out over dollars --or yen--whatever....

apparently that simply would NOT have been acceptable to the fans there, who consider their star players going to the majors akin to seeing your kids graduate college with honors.

agreed on Paps...he needs to start, and it really does give them a killer rotation if he's in there....but you know Timlin can't close,so they still gotta figure something out there.

that's what i was thinking too - especailly when Boras said over and over that the last word/decision would be Dice-K's.

damn, we need a closer, like really really badly
